Senior Minister Job Description
QUALIFICATIONS:
1 Have a personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ and have been called into ministry.
2 Must be a student of the scriptures with the ability to communicate God’s word through preaching and teaching.
3 Must have a passion for the pastoral care of the church family.
4 Must have the ability to work in harmony with others.
5 Must have strong leadership/organizational skills.
6 Must have at least 5 years of experience in a ministry position in a church.
7 Must have at least a BA/BS Degree from an accredited Bible/ Christian college.
8 Must meet the Biblical qualifications for pastoral leadership (see 1 Timothy 3:1-10).
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
To work with the elders and other staff members in providing leadership for the congregation to pursue its mission of “Reaching the Lost, Teaching the Saved, and Repeating the Process”... all while striving to maintain the church’s core values of ... Biblical authority, loving all people, faithful service, and unceasing prayer.
RESPONSIBLE TO:
The senior minister is responsible to the elders of the First Christian Church while working in harmony with other staff members.
JOB DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
1 Preaching every Sunday except for special programs (Youth Sundays, Faith Promise, etc.), scheduled vacations, or illness.
2 Teaching which may include Adult Bible Study and Covenant Classes.
3 Working with the Worship Minister to provide the best possible worship experience for the congregation.
4 Attending all elder and board meetings as well as serving as an ex officio member of all ministry teams. (Attendance at ministry team meetings is not always required.)
5 Visiting in homes, hospitals and nursing homes when there is the
need for pastoral care. Develop programs which include church members in pastoral care.
6 Leading in the area of evangelism by teaching the lost and training church members to participate in evangelism.
7 Being available to conduct funerals and perform weddings if requested. The senior minister has the right to refuse such services if they go against his conscience.
8 Being available to counsel where he has the ability to do so.
9 Keeping regular posted office hours.

• Should be a person who gives attention to details striving to perform to the best of their ability.
• Should be a self-starter, good at multi-tasking and prioritizing projects.
• Endorse and support the church and her mission as well.
• Maintain personal spiritual development through Bible reading, prayer, and Christian community.
• Recruit, train, schedule and lead teams of volunteers.
• Provide discipleship to volunteers.
• Be reliable, take initiative and be self-motivated.
• Use appropriate judgment in the areas of discretion, sensitivity and confidentiality.
• Meets regularly with other staff members to discuss ministry strategy and effectiveness.
